Reinstein syndrome: A heritable syndrome characterized by eye disease (specifically, macular degeneration and inverse retinitis pigmentosa), progressive hearing loss, and hypogonadism . Inverse retinitis pigmentosa differs from the common form of retinitis pigmentosa in the absence of night blindness , early loss of central vision , and preference for dim illumination. The syndrome was first described in 1971 by Reinstein and Chalfin.
