Polio vaccine, oral: A vaccine containing live attenuated (weakened) poliovirus types I, II, and III grown in monkey kidney cell tissue culture, The oral polio vaccine (OPV) is now used for the routine immunization of children against polio. OPV induces long-lasting immunity and does not require a booster; OPV should not be given to immunodeficient persons or to their close contacts. OPV is also called the Sabin vaccine after Dr. A;bert Sabin .
