5-HT1A: A type of receptor for serotonin . The gene that encodes this receptor has been named HTR1A and is located on chromosome 5 in region 5q11.2-q13.
Serotonin (also known as 5-hydroxytryptamine) is an important neurotransmitter within the central nervous system . After it is released by a neuron, serotonin activates receptors located on nearby neurons. These receptors include 5-HT1A.
5-HT1A stands for 5-beta hydroxytryptamine receptor 1.
